Citing Sources

Follow the general guidelines below to cite your sources using MLA format.
 
Citing Books
 
When citing information from a book, you must include:
•    the author's name (last, first)
•    title of the book (in italics)
•    publisher
•    date of publication/copyright (found in the front of the book) 

Example for Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth
 
Kinney, Jeff.  Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth.  Amulet Books, 2010.
 
         
Use the following information to practice creating a citation:
•    Author: Suzanne Collins
•    Title of Book: The Hunger Games
•    Publisher: Scholastic Press
•    Date of Publication: 2008                
 
Citing Websites
 
 When citing information from an online article, website, etc., you must include:
•    the author's name (last, first) --if not available, use the title of the organization or title of the website
•    title of article/webpage (in quotations)
•    title of website (in italics)
•    date (if available)
•    web address
•    date of access (Day Month Year)

Example for "Home Experiments."
 
Shakhashiri, Bassam.  "Home Experiments.  Science is Fun in the Lab of Shakhashiri,  http://scifun.chem.wisc.edu/homeexpts/homeexpts.html.  Accessed 10 Oct. 2016.
 
Use the following information to practice creating a citation:
•    Author: Manohla Dargis
•    Title of Article: Tested by a Picturesque Dystopia
•    Title of Website: The New York Times
•    March 22, 2012
•    Web Address: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/23/movies/the-hunger-games-movie-adapts-the-suzanne-collins-novel.html?_r=0
•    Date of access: October 10, 2016
 
Images
 
When citing images, you must include:
•    name of the artist (last, first)--if not available, use short description of image
•    title of the image (in quotations)
•    title of webpage (italics)
•    date (if available)
•    web address
•    date of access (Day Month Year)

Use the following information to practice creating a citation:
•    Artist: Murray Close

•    Date of Access: October 10, 2016
